Established by Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada and the Government of India (GOI), COL-CEMCA works in eight Commonwealth countries in Asia – Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.

In a decisive move, representatives from 15 Open Universities (OUs) across India have committed to a 12-month action plan to embed employability at the core of distance education.
This commitment emerged from a high-level two-day workshop (26–27 March 2026) organised by the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (COL-CEMCA) — transforming faculty members into 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗚𝗘) 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.
🔑 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
✔️ Embedding employability modules directly into academic programmes.
✔️ GE Champions will cascade training across campus-based HEIs and faculty networks at state level.
✔️ Continuous Skills Gap Analysis will ensure course alignment with evolving industry needs
✔️ Adoption of new M&E frameworks will measure success by student employment rates rather degrees.
💬 As highlighted by Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, COL-CEMCA:
"Universities must move beyond traditional credentialing. Employability should become a Key Performance Indicator (KPI)."
🌱 The roadmap places strong emphasis on:
• Micro-credentials & flexible learning pathways
• Industry-relevant, real-time skills
• A sustained mentorship model for Lead Trainers

The Commonwealth of Learning-Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (COL-CEMCA), in collaboration with Manav Rachna International Institute of Research & Studies (MRIIRS), conducted a five-day Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Empowering Higher Education Institutions in Technology-enabled and Blended Learning” from 23–27 March 2026, bringing together over 130 faculty members from HEIs across India.
The inaugural session featured insights from Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Pro Vice Chancellor, who highlighted the importance of faculty capacity building, institutional transformation, and the integration of technology to drive innovation and interdisciplinary learning.
In his address, Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, COL-CEMCA, emphasised the evolving role of faculty—from knowledge transmitters to facilitators of learner success, employability, and lifelong learning—underscoring the need for learner-centred approaches in higher education.
Over five engaging days, participants explored:
✔ Salient Features of NEP 2020
✔ Technology-Enabled & Blended Learning (with game-based learning)
✔ OER, MOOCs & LMS integration
✔ AI in education with hands-on tools
✔ Graduate Employability & institutional action planning
The programme enabled faculty members to enhance their pedagogical practices, adopt innovative digital tools, and align academic delivery with real-world employability outcomes.

Mr. Sandeep Parmar, President, CRA, welcomed participants and emphasised the need to responsibly integrate AI with radio, highlighting the importance of collaboration to harness AI's potential while mitigating its risks.
Mr. Mahendra Kumar Meena, Under Secretary (CRS), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), urged CRA and stakeholders to explore innovative initiatives, enhancing capacity and sustainability.
Dr. B. Shadrach, Director, COL-CEMCA, congratulated all radio stations on World Radio Day, appreciating the stellar service in resource constrained areas. He reminded that community radio is 'by the people, for the people, of the people'.
Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhatwalia, Retd. Principal Director General, Press Information Bureau and Director General, IIMC, urged participants to use AI to facilitate community-based communication, leveraging local languages and participants.
Ms. Monica Sharma, Coordinator, COL-CEMCA, reflected on her long association with community radio and the contribution of community radio to the communities over the years.
Mr. S Senthilkumaran, Reliance Foundation, emphasised that community radio can leverage AI tools to produce predictive intelligence programmes, enhancing livelihood opportunities and government scheme outreach.
