Workshop for the Community Women Broadcasters in Bangladesh

Workshop for the Community Women Broadcasters in Bangladesh

Dhaka, 28/08/2014: The Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia in collaboration with Rupantar, an organisation based in Khulna and Dhaka organised a master training workshop focused on mutual capacity sharing between women broadcasters of the Community Radio stations of Bangladesh aiming to improve and strengthen the community participation in the programme production from 25 -28 August, 2014 at Dhaka, Bangladesh.

This four-day capacity building workshop provided an opportunity to 20 women broadcasters of 10 operational community radio stations out of 14 in Bangladesh to attain conceptual clarity on the Community Learning Program (CLP) model developed by Commonwealth of Learning through collaboration with various global partners. At the workshop the Community Radio stations also took their first step towards planning cascade workshops and produced two episodes of CLP experimentally.

The participants were introduced to various tools that can be used for developing a radio series that blends ‘outcome-oriented learning design’ with ‘process-oriented dialogue’ and stakeholder participation. This also forms the core of the CLP model. The model ties in perfectly with the objective of increasing women’s participation in community radio at all levels of decision-making in a community radio programme. Dr. Ankuran Dutta, Mr. Saifuddin Sabuj, Mr. Sumon Francis Gomes and Ms. Rosemary Joydhar served as key resource persons. Dr. Jahangir Alom and Mr. Tofique Maruf also delivered lecturers on script writing and programme designing. Executive Director of Rupantar, Mr. Rafiqul Islam Khokan attended the inaugural session of the workshop.
