Workshop for capacity building of educators on OER-based e-Learning at the Open University of Sri Lanka

New Delhi, 09/01/2015: Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), New Delhi  in collaboration with Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) organised a workshop for Capacity Building of educators on OER-based eLearning programme. The workshop was held at main campus of OUSL from December 16–19, 2014. Forty (40) academic staff members of OUSL from various disciplines attended this OER-based eLearning workshop. This workshop was facilitated by Prof. Som Naidu of Monash University, Australia. During this workshop, on 17th December, 2014, the Faculty of Education of the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) launched the course on “OER-based e-Learning”, adapted and developed in collaboration with Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), New Delhi, India. This is a fully online course aiming at the professional development of educators in integrating Open Educational Resources (OER) in teaching and learning.

Dr. Vijitha Nanayakkara, Vice-Chancellor of OUSL, the Chief Guest of the Ceremony, officially launched the online course. Emeritus Prof. Chandra Gunawardena, former UNESCO/COL Chair and founding Dean of the Faculty of Education, OUSL, and Dr. Upali Sedere, renowned Education Sector Specialist and a Council member of OUSL were present as Guests of Honor on this occasion. Prof. Som Naidu of Monash University, Australia, facilitator for the OER integration project, was also present as a special guest.

This online course will be implemented during a period of 6 months, under the leadership of Prof. Shironica Karunanayaka, Dean, Faculty of Education, OUSL.
