Webinar on Games for Online Teaching and Learning of Computing Skills


Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) organised a webinar on Games for Online Teaching and Learning of Computing Skills on 11 June 2021. The objective was to create awareness on how games can be leveraged to promote conceptual understanding and learner motivation in online learning. In her inaugural address, Prof. Madhu Parhar, Director CEMCA spoke of how game-based learning can engage learners, its relevance for diverse disciplines, and the need to enable faculty members to effectively incorporate this approach in their own teaching.

The expert for the webinar was Dr. Sridhar from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati. The webinar was structured along the following sections: game-based learning, computing education, games for computing, and games for debugging. Online games for computing education were demonstrated. 40 faculty members from disciplines such as Computer Science and Education from colleges and universities across India actively participated in this webinar. The participants appreciated this opportunity to gain insights about game-based learning and stressed upon the need for further training programmes on how games can enhance online teaching and learning.
