Student Video Competition: Why Community Radio Matters?

New Delhi, 11/10/2013: The Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) in association with UNESCO, New Delhi and Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), New Delhi is pleased to announce the UNESCO-CEMCA Community Radio Video Challenge (CRVC) for the students of Indian media schools.  The objective of the activity is to engage the Indian youth in Community Radio (CR) and promote understanding and importance of CR as an alternative media for community’s self-expression, learning and development.  Theme of the 3 minutes video challenge is “Why Community Radio Matters?”

CEMCA has been working to promote the use of CR in learning for development since 2006. UNESCO recognizes that the presence of CR is a sign of media pluralism, diversity of content, and the representation of a society’s different groups and interests. The UNESCO’s International programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) has been promoting the use and establishment of low-cost media, including CR stations for the past several years. UNESCO proclaimed February 13 as the World Radio Day in 2011.

The CRVC is open to students pursuing media studies in Indian educational institutions during the period of the contest. An eminent jury consisting of distinguished artists, professionals in media and CR practitioners will review the submissions. The last date of submission of online entries is 30 December 2013,  while date of receipt of the supported documentation and materials at CEMCA is 10 January 2014. The best videos will receive awards in a function organised by the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC) at New Delhi on the World Radio Day 2014. AIMC is one of the leading media training institutes in the country, which offers Post Graduate Diplomas in Advertising, PR, Event Management, Broadcast Journalism & Production and Web Journalism.
