Skills based Vocational Programme for Home Nursing and Geriatric Care

New Delhi, 05/05/2015: Moving towards achieving the National Mission of skilling 500 million people in India, the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) has been supporting the development of open and distance learning courses in compliance with the National Skills Qualifications Framework. In this regard CEMCA developing   a modular programme entitled Home Nursing and Geriatric Care in collaboration with JSS Karnataka Open School (KOS), Mysore. The KOS organized a workshop for Curriculum finalisation and training on development of Self-learning Materials for the programme Home Nursing and Geriatric Care from April 29-30, 2015 at the KOS Campus at Mysore.  In the modular approach, a Certificate Programme for Home Nursing and Geriatric Care is currently being developed, and it will be available for anyone who has Grade 10 qualification. The experts and course developers reviewed the draft curriculum and syllabus, and also discussed the issues related to organization of practical, course duration, requirements for study centres and availability of the support materials for practical and internship.

The Welcome address was given by Dr. K M Veeraiah, Director, KOS, Mysore. He explained the procedure to be followed while writing the lessons for this programme. He also ensured the achievement of set objectives and smooth conduct of the programme. Prof. C K Renukarya, Director, Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Post Graduate Centre, Mysore facilitated the workshop and shared his views on developing the Self Learning Materials with reference to NIOS and IGNOU materials. Dr. Manas Ranjan Panigrahi, Programme Officer from CEMCA made a presentation and led a discussion on Instructional design.  Thirteen experts (four male and nine female) participated in the workshop to provide their valuable inputs to the programme.
