Six days online training program: “Virasat-The Heritage Model” for Traditional Cluster Development in Assam


Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) in association with FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry) organized 6 days online training program on Bamboo Handicraft course under “Virasat-The Heritage Model” for Traditional Cluster Development in Assam from 26th April 2021 to 01st May 2021. This workshop was designed to enhance capacity of Young Workforce and Mid-age Workforce from Assam in Bamboo handicraft and generating self-employment for them.

During the inaugural Session, Dr. Madhu Parhar (Director, CEMCA) and Mr. Saurabh Mishra, (Programme Officer, CEMCA) ,Mrs. Veena Swarup (Chair, FICCI Skill Development Task Force), and Mr Sumeet Gupta, (ASG, FICCI), Mr. Arjun (Manager, HCSSC) were present

Dr Madhu Parhar in her speech appreciated the effort of FICCI and their team for conducting such informative training program. She also acknowledged the dedication of Program implementing partner Don Bosco for mobilizing participants from remote areas of Assam during ongoing election and covid situation. She further spoke on various benefits of Bamboo as alternative to plastic and how Indian government and all international organizations are promoting it. She also appreciated the effort of participants for attending the program in such difficult situation and eagerness to learn various bamboo crafting skills online.

Mr Sumeet and Mrs. Veena also congratulated participants for their eagerness to learn the skills. They explained the structure of program and encouraged them to learn the skills and use online market space like whatsapp, facebook to sell their products online.

45 participants from various parts of Assam attended this program and been certified by FICCI in association with CEMCA.

During this 6 days program, experts from HCSSC taught participants to make various handicrafts using bamboo, trainers from Don Bosco taught them online marketing and selling skills and given hands-on of amazon and facebook for selling their products. CEMCA’s non-technical videos on Bamboo for Sustainable development were also shown to participants.
