Self-employment linked Tailoring training for females in Bhagalpur, Bihar

COVID-19 has disrupted millions of lives and endangered the Indian’s economy but most badly it
hurt the livelihood of marginalized community across India. CEMCA understanding its responsibility
to support and facilitate sustained and inclusive economic growth and to drive progress, create decent
jobs for all and improve living standards (SDG 8) conducted self-employment linked tailoring training
for marginalized females in Bhagalpur, Bihar.

CEMCA trained hundred marginalized community females in sewing machine operator course. These
females were mostly housewives and daily wage workers struggling in their lives and trying to earn
their livelihood. This training program conducted during January-September 2021 gave trainees
hands-on on industrial sewing machines, five thread overlock machines, flatlock machines etc. They
learned new trends of stitching, design patterns and entrepreneurship mindset.

Post completion of training program, 15 participants availed business loan from bank for setting up
their production unit,30 participants formed their self-help group (SHG) and started their business.
Overall, 81 trainees started their tailoring and stitching business and earning their livelihood and
supporting their families. Out of which 59 have registered their business on Udyam Registration
portal.
