Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for Wood Workers

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certification supports in creation of a sustainable work ecosystem, with improvement in quality and productivity. By imparting skill-based training, assessing the skills and certifying, RPL brings equity among the formally trained and informally trained workforce. Besides improving livelihood opportunities for the workforce, the self-employed can also make use of the credits they gain through certification for availing loans under various schemes to fund their own businesses and create more jobs to build a stronger economy.

As part of research study on RPL to evaluate its importance in current skill ecosystem of India, Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) collaborated with Furniture & Fitting Skill Council(FFSC) to mobilize, counsel and certify the workforce with prior experience under RPL program.

FFSC implemented the project in the three locations of Udaipur (Rajasthan), Singur (West Bengal) and New Delhi with the crucial support of industry partners like Ozone Overseas Pvt. Ltd, Vaibhav Industries, Sun Interiors, Vinayak Industries and STS Realtor & Decors Pvt. Ltd.

Seven workshops of two days each were organized between 11th April and 28th June 2021 in above specified locations which witnessed participation of industry experts in both online & offline mode. In these workshops 272 woodworkers participated out of which 252 were certified and RPL tool kit were provided to them.

To overcome the COVID challenges, the Certificate Distribution Ceremony was done at multiple locations where Industry Leaders from Wooden Street, I.EVO - Contractual & Bespoke Furniture Manufacturer, Vinayak Furniture, Jangid Brothers Pvt Ltd, Minda Furniture and Zorin Interiors Pvt Ltd participated and presented toolkits & NSQF certificates to the beneficiaries.
