Online Workshop on Design and Development of Self learning Material for HELP University Malaysia


CEMCA supporting to HELP University, Malaysia for Design and Development of Self Learning Material. In this regard, CEMCA organised two-days online capacity building workshop from 24-25 May 2021 synchronously and the faculty members engaged in the HELP University LMS up to 2nd June 2021 asynchronously. Prof. Santosh Panda of IGNOU-India facilitating the workshop as an expert. Mr. Kok Cheang Loh, Director of the Centre for Learning & Teaching at HELP University and Prof. Andy Liew, Pro-Vice Chancellor, HELP University along with Prof. Madhu Parhar, Director CEMCA also address in the occasion. 40 faculty members from different departments of the HELP University participating in this workshop. Dr. Manas Ranjan Panigrahi from CEMCA coordinating and conducting the workshop. The objective of the two-day programme was to enhanced capacity on how to design and develop Self Learning Material for Open and Distance Learning.

Training contents were released in HELP University LMS on 21 May 2021 and available to the participants. All participants advised to visit the training course page in LMS and have a reading and complete the activities as per the instruction.

During two-days synchronous sessions Prof. Santosh Panda, covered the following:

  • Concepts on Open and Distance Learning and Importance of SLM
  • Instructional Design for SLM
  • Concept Map and Programme/Course Structure
  • How to Write Structure and Introduction
  • How to Write Learning Outcomes
  • COL Template for SLM
  • Structure of the Content
  • How to Design Activities &How to Design (Self) Assessment Questions
  • Summary, Glossary and References Editing (Content, Language, Format etc)

Further, the participants engaged in the university LMS for different activities and to prepare a draft unit/content in their own specialised courses. Two quizzes also given in the LMS to test their self-progress on the concepts.

During the closing of the workshop, Professor Datuk Paul Chan, Vice Chancellor of the HELP University, put a note saying that, world is moving towards Collaboration and Networking. CEMCA is fortunate to partner with HELP University where all colleagues are committed and Learners. We will look forward to work with the University and colleagues to improve the Quality of Education.
