Launching of CEMCA’s OER-based eLearning Programme and conduct of  Capacity Building Workshop on OER at UOU, Uttarakhand

New Delhi; 20/02/2015: Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), New Delhi in collaboration with OER Cell, School of Computer Science & IT, Uttarakhand Open University (UOU), Haldwani (Nainital) organized a Capacity Building Workshop on OER from February 18-19, 2015. Thirty participants attended this hands-on workshop representing different Schools of UOU such as Computer Science & IT, Management Studies & Commerce, Sciences (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences), Psychology, Education, ICT, Forestry and Environmental Sciences, Agriculture & Development Studies, Languages and Humanities, Social Sciences,  etc. The main objectives of the workshop were: to promote OER in designing new courses in the University and to provide hands-on training to UOU faculty members for designing and development of OER.

During the inaugural session of workshop Uttarakhand Open University launched the OER-based eLearning Programme developed by CEMCA for the professional development of the Higher Education Teachers in the state of Uttarakhand.

On this occasion Prof. Subhash Dhuliya, Vice Chancellor UOU, stated that we can make available the high quality OER based study material to the students at distant places befitting the different geographical situation of the State. He further informed that we have already reached the unreached through EduSAT, Community Radio and online programmes and thus imparting education to the unreached where no other Institution has reached as yet. He stated that most of the study material of UOU is in Hindi and we intend to provide our online quality study material not only to our own students but also to other Hindi speaking universities. Dr. R. C. Sharma, Director CEMCA appreciated the idea of Prof. Dhuliya of sharing the online study material with the learners of other universities. He stated that in the present era the ODL through modern technologies is benefitting higher education sector and the UOU can serve the students of the region with greater impact with the use of ICT.  Prof. Durgesh Pant, Director School of Computer Science & IT, UOU, Uttarakhand expressed that the OER is a powerful medium for virtual education and we can make the distance education more effective by using ICT in teaching and learning. Dr. Manas Ranjan Panigrahi, Programme Officer Education, CEMCA presented the details of two days programme agenda of the workshop and highlighted that significance and objective of the Workshop.

In the workshop Dr. R. C. Sharma, Director CEMCA took session on the Development and designing of instructional materials using Wiki and Creative Common Platform. Dr. Manas Ranjan Panigrahi, Programme Officer Education, CEMCA the key resource person for the workshop and explained about Creative Common licenses and other topics. The participants of the workshop got practical exposure during the sessions. Prof. Subhash Dhuliya the Vice Chancellor UOU; Sri L. S. Rawat, Registrar; ICT Head Mr. Pradeep Pathak; Dy. Registrar Dr. Sanjaya Dhyani; workshop coordinator Mr. Rajendra Goswami and other faculties such as Mr. Balam Dafauti, Mr. Rajesh Arya, Mr. Subodh Kumar, Mr. Vineet Pauriyal of the University were present at the valedictory function, where the certificates were awarded to the participants. Sri L. S. Rawat, Registrar, UOU thanked CEMCA for its support for the workshop and the participants for making the workshop a success.
