Community Women Broadcaster’s Master Training-March 6-9, 2013, Sohna, Haryana


Going beyond creating awareness and license facilitation, in the current three year plan (TYP 2013-2015) under the Livelihoods and Health Sector, CEMCA has undertaken a special Community Media/Healthy Communities initiative that covers a range of activities to encourage good practices. Building capacities of community women broadcasters in a cascading training approach is one such activity.

As a first step towards developing leadership skills among grassroots women, CEMCA will conduct a community broadcaster’s workshops in Sohna, Haryana from March 6-9, 2013. The aim of the workshop is to provide the participants with an opportunity to acquire and practice training skills and to enhance their abilities to design training sessions.  The workshop will bring together grassroots women practitioners from seven different community radio stations in the Northern regions. The women will be trained as master Seven Community Radio stations from the region will participate in this event. trainers who will further train at least 10 more community members to engage with community radio and other media as a tool of self-expression and learning. The main purpose of the workshop is to provide training in order to establish a core team of trainers, who have relevant skills in planning, designing and supporting the training amongst their respective community members.

The main thrust of the workshop is to build upon the participant’s communication skills leading to:

  • Using Community Radio for learning which would involve sharing ideas on the behavior change and using radio for learning for better health and livelihoods.
  • Development of facilitation skills which would include sessions on community engagement and communication skills
  • Developing CR management skills with interaction on participation on the programme advisory committee and content committee
  • How to plan and conduct outreach activities to get the community to participate more actively in the radio

By the end of the planning year, June 2013, it is estimated that at least 100 women will be trained in this cascading training approach.
