Community Radio Peer Reviewers Trained to use CR-CIT

Community Radio Peer Reviewers Trained to use CR-CIT

New Delhi 11/10/2014: The UNESCO Chair on Community Media (UCCM), with support from Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA), New Delhi, conducted a workshop in Hyderabad from October 8 to 10, 2014 aimed at building the capacities of Peer Reviewers in using the Community Radio-Continuous Improvement Toolkit (CR-CIT), Version 2.0.  The Toolkit, developed by the UCCM and already distributed to all the CR stations in India, has been designed to assist Community Radio stations in undertaking periodic self-assessment of their performance and take necessary steps to improve their engagements and overall performance in serving the communities they serve.

The workshop, attended by 13 participants from the sector, promoted a culture of co-learning within the community radio practitioners by involving two Peers from other CR stations when one station takes up self-assessment. It also aims at inculcating appreciation of the core principles of community media. The workshop will develop capacities of the participants to use CR-CIT effectively while serving as Peer Reviewers. At the end of the workshop the participants were assessed for their understanding of the toolkit and 10 of them received certificates for their achievement.

CEMCA and the UCCM will conduct another workshop from November 26 to 28, 2014 after which a list of trained Peer Reviewers will be published on the websites of both CEMCA and the UCCM. CEMCA will also initiate the process of Peer Review using CR-CIT and support 10 CR Stations in 2014-15.
