CEMCA supporting University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka for Implementation of Open Book & Take-Home Examination


An online capacity building workshop for university teachers of University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka was organised from 06-08 January 2021 on “Implementation of Open Book & Take-Home Examination”.

Inaugurating the three-day workshop, University of Peradeniya Vice Chancellor Professor U B Dissanayake noted that COVID-19 had disrupted to conduct examinations and ensure timely completion of the degree.

Hence, the university is planning to take a step for open book & take-home examination in the university through different modalities such as online and/or offline. He thanked CEMCA for the support to build capacity of university teachers to conduct the examinations effectively and ethically.

Vice-Chancellor Professor E Vayunandan of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nasik, India shared the experiences of the University, on conducting the online examination during COVID-19 Lock down period.

A total of 180 faculty members of the university participated in the workshop. The programme included principles/concepts involved in setting open book, take home examination questions/papers and how it is different from closed book formal examination questions. Dr. Dinesh Bhonde from YCMOU discussed the techniques and tips for setting open book take home examination questions for quantitative subjects such as business mathematics, statistics, and accounting. He explained the answer scripts evaluation and scoring with the weightage.

Participants welcomed the training opportunity and assured the implementation of the same adequately in an immediate effect. They also underscored the need for more specific training sessions on online examination and open book examination.
