Capacity Building Ravenshaw University teachers on “Design and development of contents and proposals for SWAYAM”


SWAYAM is a programme initiated by the Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching-learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy. It facilitates the hosting of courses from various disciplines starting from school level to post-graduate level which can be accessed by anyone, anywhere at any time. All the courses are interactive, prepared by the best teachers in from across the country (www.swaysm.gov.in).

In this regard CEMCA conducted a two days capacity building workshop on “Design and development of contents and proposals for SWAYAM” for Ravenshaw university teachers during 05-06 April 2022. The focus of this workshop was to orient the teachers of the University on SWAYAM MOOCs and facilitate them to develop a proposal for offering MOOCs through SWAYAM. A total of 55 faculty members (42 male and 13 female) from 22 Departments of Ravenshaw University participated in the training program.

At the outset Prof. Sudarshan Mishra in his welcome address extended his gratitude to CEMCA, New Delhi for extending support to organize the training programme. He highlighted the very purpose of the Massive Open Online Courses, hosted on SWAYAM online platform. The Chairperson PG Council, Prof. Ashima Sahu pointed out the importance of Massive Open Online Courses in near future and anticipated that it can serve the needs and interest of learners from diverse disciplines. The expertise of the faculty members across the universities can be useful in catering to many online courses in SWAYAM platform giving free access to higher education learners. She expressed that this workshop will be helpful in connecting the learned faculty members of Ravenshaw and orienting them to come out with proposal for potential MOOCs.

The workshop included interactive presentation on the topic “Process for developing SWAYAM Proposal”. Mr. Ashish Awadhiya highlighted all the major key points to be taken care of in developing introductory video and development of proposal for SWAYAM-MOOC. Teachers were given guidelines about development of e-contents, content-based videos, discussion forum and assessment practices. The participants were informed about requirements of the submitting the proposals by different National Coordinators. Expert oriented the participants about academic and administrative requirements during SWAYAM course proposals. Sessions were devoted on hands-on-practice for development of MOOC proposal and preparation of introductory video. The participants were engaged in group work and Developed Course Specific Proposals. Participants were divided into 10 groups. Each group worked on a particular theme/discipline/ course to develop the proposal. The proposals were discussed in the specific groups and mentored by the resource person.
