Broadcast of audio programmes on Life Sciences (Atpate Vigyaan ki Chatpati Charchayein) through Community Radio Station.

COVID-19 pandemic has gravely impacted human life across the globe since last year. This situation has posed multiple types of challenges before society. Whole country is reeling under the onslaught of the second and deadlier Corona virus. Sudden spread of 2 nd strain has resulted into uncertainty about the future of millions of students as educational institutions are being shut down again throughout the country.

The need for creation of educational content and distribution through community radios in the country came up to achieve the goal of continuous learning of the children of marginalised group through alternative learning means by using optimum use of available and economical means.

CEMCA approached Techno-hub Laboratories Private Limited to develop series of 10 short educational life science audio programmes Atpate Vigyaan ki Chatpati Charchayein (Science Concepts through storytelling) in month of June 2021 and these audio lessons were broadcast by 14 CR stations in Hindi speaking states for 6 weeks. The primary aim of this project as we understood, is to create scientific temper and understanding amongst the young generation in general. This would be a unique initiative of CEMCA to create scientific and social awareness through sanitizing programs for the students in India

A survey was conducted to collect the feedback from listeners regarding the impact of these programmes. The date from around 1700 people have been collected who have listened the programmes were approached. The project included broadcasting and narrowcasting of radio programs. The series created edutainment programs. Some challenges and recommendations were made by CRS eg. the topics related to psychological well-being can also be added in future, to tap the women listeners for the program, programme may be recorded in the regional languages.

The target group was girls and marginalised group who neither got the chance to enrol in the formal education or discontinued their education due to pandemic.

The outcome of the project is that the information cannot be passed only through the books but scientific aspects may be imparted through these kind of edutainment programmes. The students found the science subject very interesting and easy after listening these audio programmes. To know about the elephants, bats, X-Ray and breaking own misbelief regarding scientific facts are the biggest achievements of these programmes.
